Great Elliptical, Easy Assembly!, September 13, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Spirit Esprit EL-355 20-Inch Stride Elliptical (Sports) I was looking for an elliptical machine for my home because I was tired of paying for a gym membership where all I did was use the gym's elliptical machines. I did a lot of research on brand, stride length, front vs. rear drive, etc...and settled on this model and I have not been disappointed. While it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some similarly priced models from more known brands, it makes up for that in quality construction and smooth operation.
My research indicated that front drive models will have a smoother motion and that I needed a stride length of at least 18". At 20", this machine provides the necessary range of motion to optimize my workout.
With respect to assembly, you'll definitely need a second person to help you carry the box to the location you plan to use the machine. The box is massive and weighs approx. 175 lbs. That being said, I assembled it myself in about an hour and a half. All the parts fit properly and the... Read more

The resistance works very well - and 8 out of 16 is a good amount of resistance to work me at this time. It feels very sturdy when I work out on it - and I didn't have much trouble using the electronic console. I also like the oversized pedals - it feels very comfortable on my feet. I had done research on elliptical machines for several weeks and after trying out the EL-355 and feeling how smooth it was, I decided to purchase it. So far, I'm very pleased with the purchase.
What I can't help with in this review is the assembly - I had that done by the place I bought it from - and I'm happy I had that done. Also, this is not a small machine - don't expect to move it around very much - probably belongs in a basement or a sturdy loft.

Can Only Guess, March 19, 2011 By Kathy (FISHKILL, NY, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Spirit Esprit EL-355 20-Inch Stride Elliptical (Sports) After much research, I purchased this elliptical and after 3 hours of in-home service it remains non-functional and is awaiting pick up. No one associated with the tech aspect of this machine could give a definitive answer as to why it would not run smoothly, but only offer up more and more replacement parts until the point of offering to replace what was essentially one of the most important parts of the flywheel.....Since I ordered this thru Amazon, the parent company of Spirit - SOLE - would only replace the machine after verifying it was unrepairable....not an option we were willing to take. One phone call to Amazon was all it took to remedy the situation. They have arranged for it to be picked up and will refund the cost. I gave the machine 2 stars because had I received one that was not defective I believe it would have been a good choice. However, if you order this, be prepared and good luck!
